Types of Corn Moisture Meters

Explore the different types of corn moisture meters, including pin and pinless models, and discover the key components.

Table of Contents

Pin meters utilize two metal probes, or pins, which are inserted into the corn sample. When the pins penetrate the grain, they measure the electrical resistance encountered by an electrical current passing between them. The presence of moisture in the grain decreases electrical resistance, thus higher moisture content results in lower resistance readings.

Corn Moisture Meters

Pinless meters, on the other hand, employ electromagnetic sensor pads that emit an electromagnetic signal. This signal interacts with the grain and provides a moisture reading based on the variations in the electromagnetic field. Unlike pin meters, pinless meters do not require insertion into the grain, making them non-destructive and suitable for delicate measurements.
